Elevator
Design of spaces related to elevators, whether the lobby or the cabs themselves, presents unique opportunities. Signature elements can incorporate art, branding, wayfinding, illumination or simply an experience that fosters intuitive and intriguing connectedness.
Interactive Experiences
Elevator Lobbies are spaces that force us all to slow down. Our interactive materials magically shimmer and shift in response to light, shadow, movement and color leading to sheer intrigue and a strong urge to explore. This sensory engagement connects users to the built environment with a memorable experience.Karlberger Architects used Sensitile Terrazzo™ tiles to create a playful and interactive feature entry wall in the elevator area of this Tennessee children’s hospital. This unique interactive feature helps to create positive distraction in healthcare spaces by responding to movement, touch and color.
Designed by Arrowstreet Architecture, the state of the art labs and offices in 450 Kendall house can be accessed via an elevator lobby entirely clad in Scintilla panels. Ample daylight in the space activates these panels as they shimmer and interact, in response to the movement, light and shadow around them, reminiscent of sunlight reflecting off the rippling surface of the nearby Charles River.
Dressing up the space
Patterns, colors and illumination strategies can be combined to yield effects ranging from dramatic to subtle.“The light emitting Infinity and Light Filtering Jali products gave us the ability to pair unusual materials with light to add interest and depth to our event space. The Jali product allowed us to project color changing LED lights, which gave the user the ability to change the color scheme as required for events. These large vertical wall installations are one of the first features you see, which makes a huge impact upon entering the space.” Neumann/Smith Architecture, Southfield, MI – Colleen O’Leary
In a stunning design by Perkins + Will, Atlanta, Bronze JaliⓇ Cascata panels were used as illuminated, three-dimensional elevator door surrounds.
Bronze material was specified with a frosted inner layer. This clever configuration when back-lit allows diffused light to filter through for a subtle and sophisticated accent. Prefabricated light boxes were provided to finish size.
Elevator lobbies-a brand statement
Using brand standard colors, graphics, logos and messaging, our materials can be customized to resonate.M Moser Associates, V3 Architectural Group and HLB Lighting Design collaborated on this stunning design of the Galderma (formerly Nestlé SHIELD) center’s flagship location in New York. The Blue and Clear squares form a mosaic-like pattern in Scintilla panels adding vibrance and dynamism to the environment.
Our back-lit Celeste panels were used for this unique design by the NY and Toronto offices of Perkins+Will for the 12th floor elevator lobby of Indeed’s office in Toronto. A flick of a switch transforms the elegant contemporary mirrors to reveal logos, letters and icons that seem to replicate infinitely within the sleek profile of our panels.
Illuminated Accents
Bespoke elements in the lobby and cab can be designed with our versatile materialsHOK Denver used JaliⓇ Cascata creatively as elevator flags inside the Byron Rogers Federal Building in Colorado. Encased in a sophisticated brushed metal housing, each flag is comprised of two 5″ x 10″ panels placed back to back. Edge-lighting is imperceptibly integrated in the stunning, double-sided feature which signals the arrival of the elevator.
