CHNOLA
In the design of the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans by EYP/Stanley Beaman & Sears, Atlanta, illuminated elements extend from the wall to the ceiling of the nurses pavilions on each floor.
The Spark panels that were used are colorless on their own but can be colored with an edge-illumination system that is carefully integrated within the material.
Inspired by natural phenomenon, the internal pattern of light harvesting points provides visual complexity and engagement to create a calm that surrounds the user who also enjoys full control of the color and intensity of illumination.
This clever design fulfills a few requirements of a healthcare facility, from adding the therapeutic effects of biophilia, light and color to achieving effective “programming of the space” by doubling up as a wayfinding and identification feature.
